If I’m following along correctly you need at least a 2 1/2 inch pocket hole screw.

I suggest you practice on some scrap until you get it right. For 2x lumber jobs, the 2 1/2 inch Kreg screws should be used.

I did similar with a cut-off/router table but used 3/4 plywood for apron and re-purposed solid core door for top. It has worked well for several years. As mentioned, use 2-1/2” screws.

Also, for more substantial 2X work, Kreg has a HD version jig & screws. The screws have a much thicker diameter.
