Is creosote a problem or is it only present on the surface?

Creosote soaks a long way into the wood. That is how RR track ties are preserved. Resawn, there wouldn’t be much left. Why are they only advertising one?

I used a scavenged utility pole as the as the posts for a deck I built several years ago. On the outside, it looked like the cresote had leached away. On the inside, the wood was black with cresote and it looked like it just came from the mill. The posts worked great for me but if you are planning to resaw and use the lumber, you may find you have some very black, sticky and strong smelling stuff.

Have your say...
