Myrtle wood... Any experience? How is it to work with?

Try getting in touch with a1Jim. He lives not far from the area where Myrtlewood is most common. I was told it only grows in 2 places in the world. The Southern Oregon coast is one. Jim’s not far from there and probably has some experience with it.

I find the Wood Database at http://www.wood-database.com to be a great source of information, especially about less commonly seen woods. I found this statement in the entry for myrtle wood very interesting:

“Per board-foot prices are among the highest for domestic hardwoods.”

Sounds like you may have found a bargain.

Between the “bargain” and the 16” wide pieces, the odds are higher the wood isn’t actually Myrtle. I live an hour north of Jim and I don’t commonly see Myrtle in our Crosscut store.
