Slots are for a drill press vice or anything else you may want to add yourself.

Yep. Imagine the pain if you didn’t have those slots. Sometimes I’ve had to bore the end of a long spindle and it’s handy to swing the drill press table out of the way and use the base instead.

the base not the table

Karda,

The base can also serve at a secondary table for larger stock. JRsgarage’s photo shows a vice attached to the base, presumably for using the base as a table when the main table is swung out of the way.

You can also use to attach to a mobile base.
