I’d be concerned. Is there a way to vent the vapors?

I’d be concerned as well. Not just fire hazard, but the fumes burning. When we use Arm-R-Seal or Polyurethane-like finishes, we get a funky smell anytime we turn on the upstairs gas fireplace for the next week (or more). It had me scouring the web for “Kerosene smell with gas fireplace.” After much searching somebody mentioned they smell that after applying Polyurethane.

And, that was during a months-long project when we were applying the finish in the basement. Our basement is a walk-out with several full-size windows that we kept open with fans in them blowing in/out to get good airflow. This persisted well past the time we could smell the normal, non-burning fumes.

Maybe somebody can verify/debunk the potentially over-cautious assumption that smelling smelly fumes burning is a bad thing.
