We had the same DeWalt saw in the shop at work and it ran flawless. Sorry to hear you are having this problem. Also sorry to hear that DeWalt is not going to stand behind it. After I retired I bought a Bosch table saw and I really like it.

I think he was told that Dewalt would fix it (if there were no signs of abuse). He’s had it 1.5 years out of a 3 year warranty. They definitely should fix it.

I don’t mean to sound snarky, but seriously?? If you can get it fixed for free, why would you even consider just going out and buying another saw?

And honestly, you should be able to determine what the problem is yourself, just by looking at it and examining the underpinnings while operating the handle. What you describe is fairly common and 99% of the time is dirt simple to fix. Most of the time, it’s just gunk built up on the gears, and a good clean (with a brush, not just air) and lube is all that is required. Occasionally it may be something like a loose set screw or spring pin that has gone missing, but those are rare. Have you even tried to figure out what it is?

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment. I’m not sure what Dewalt considers abuse. Msinc – I bought this saw because of the great reviews, and besides the issue mentioned it’s been working great. I almost feel like I should just pay but am afraid that after a while the same thing will happen again, especially since I always took extra care to clean out the sawdust from underneath.
Brad – if Dewalt had agreed to fix it for free, I wouldn’t have taken the time to post here. Regarding your recommendations, I appreciate them. Before taking the saw to a repair shop, I did use a toothbrush to clean up any visible parts to see if that made a difference. But they were fairly clean already. I was about to open it up and see what the issue was, but my husband reminded me that this would void any warranty, which is why I took it to the shop instead of trying to deal with the problem myself. I guess that backfired.

I am sure that you have resolved your issue by now, but I have had the same issue on a couple of occasions. I cleaned everything, and still couldn’t raise the blade. I finally resorted to the old adage, if it move’s and shouldn’t-duct tape. If it doesn’t move but should-WD 40. Against all logic, that is all that it took to get it working like new. I was shocked. I have had it happen a couple more times and WD 40 resolves it every time. If you have the issue again, give it a shot!
