Install a hex lag into a stud and grind off the hex head, then drill a hole into the side of the

shelf and install 2 of them.

All those specialty hardware is pricey, I think I will just lag bolt it from the other side of the wall in my bedroom closet.

Using a keyhole router bit, a pair of slots can be routed on the wall-side edge of the shelf. A pair of pan head screws can be installed in the wall at the appropriate distance (the distance between the entry holes in the keyhole slots). The shelf can then be installed on the screws, and with the screws tweaked to the correct depth, sliding the shelf a bit in one direction can lock it to the wall. Of course the head of the screws must fit into the keyhole and the head of the screws large enough to catch on the lips of the slot.
