Do you mean holdfasts? If so which kind do you have?
I use the Grammercy Tools holdfasts and they work fine but when new they slipped a little until I scratched them up a little with coarse sandpaper. My bench top is thicker than yours so that shouldn’t be the problem. You could also try drilling out (test this elsewhere first) the holes just a little bigger.

Thanks, shipwright. I will try your suggestions. Sounds very promising. I have some holdfasts I bought from Rockler. It is good to hear it is not the thickness of the bench that is causing the trouble.
