I am not really clear on what you are asking. The joinery used will not add bracing where bracing is missing so you may need to beef up what is supporting that added partition but sliding dovetails to mount the shelves should work fine. Will you have shelving that you can adjust the height on or is it all fixed shelving?

After reviewing it more, I think I’ll just build two smaller bookcases and join them together. I know that I would need to have the partition go from floor to top to support the middle but I couldn’t think of a good way to do that. Posting the question on here helped me to think more about what I wanted to do and the best way to make it work.
