Some hate Minwax products and some love them. Sometimes it works for me amd sometimes it doesn’t.

Ive had good luck wiping it down with mineral spirits and giving it another day.

I have been making chisel handles out of padauk, and yes there is some difference how the poly reacts on this wood. It seems to form a layer that does not dry normally, that layer can be wiped off with a cloth going with the grain, then using steel wool.
I have also used “true oil” gunstock finish with good results.

Not sure, if I’m much help, but doesn’t Padauk have a lot of natural oils? Perhaps this is holding up the works?

gdiddy13 I think your right about that, I am working on another project and I noticed that after removing a few clamps I had hold some pieces it appeared to have a oil finish under were the clamp was holding the part like it had squeezed the oil out of if. one thing for sure it keeps the machinery I am using well oiled! but it is so hard on my lungs, I have to wear a respirator and it still gets in. but what beautiful wood.

Padauk has a lot of natural oil that could be part of the problem. I have used Minwax before and it wouldn’t cure. I don’t use minwax anymore.
