This may or may not be a good buy, but it is good quality. I have one on my Unisaw and rarely go back to my stock fence:

Was my pun too subtle?

Say the name of the fence in Kelly’s post out loud.

Yep. Too subtle.
This Uni-t-fence is American made and the above link was the motivation. I had some special needs, so I didn’t buy the aluminum one. Some of the accessories clutter the saw table.

I would like to get a set of these also, but no Aldis within 4 hours! If someone comes across a set and would ship them I ll pay for them!

- ScottM

If my Aldis gets anymore in, I ll buy a few extra sets and make them available for cost + shipping. I ll post in this thread (as long as it s okay with you Rick) if I have any available for y all.

- HokieKen

My son scored me 2 sets of the chisels and held onto ‘em for Father’s Day :-). 1 of ‘em’s yours if you still want them Scott. If Scott doesn’t claim them, first person that PMs me wanting them gets them. $7 + shipping cost via Paypal gift or if you want to save the fee, you can mail cash.

Okay, ScottM doesn’t need my extra set of Aldi’s chisels so I’ll offer them up here for cost ($6.99+5% tax = $7.34) plus shipping (about $6.50 as long as you don’t mind me unpacking them to fit in a flat rate envelope). So, $14.00 should do it. PM me if interested.

I needed 4” × 10’ dust collection hose and found quite a difference for, what appears to similar, products for about $25 difference. Both are the same length and both are anti static. I ordered one from Home Depot and I will report any issues with this hose.

Home Depot $19.99, no shipping, in store pickup.

Rockler $44.99 no including delivery.

As I said above, that a $25 difference and that’s another router bit or some beer!

Makita XT211 18V outfit = A) hammer drill/ drill/ driver and B) impact tool C) 2 Li-Ion batteries 3Ahr D) rapid charger E) plastic carrying case for $189

http://www.toolbarn.com/makita-xt211.html

The good – full featured hammer etc., somewhat compact size but 3 Ahr batteries are heavy. terrific price beat the BORG by $40-50 beat others by $100, I’ve only just bought it but trust it is up to other Makita tool quality (I own a few all good). I have a compact 10.8V Makita set (my go to in the shop) but I occasionally need something heavier duty.
The bad – in and out of stock and their Cust. serv. is clueless. I missed one when supposedly in stock, then my 3 week wait did not materialize; it came in 5 days. I sold my DeWalt NiCd with 2 good batteries for half this. I was probably going to need batteries within 6-8 months, so I jumped into Li-Ion technology for a song.
I have a Makita 10.8V pair driver and impact, 5 years old, original batteries still working great. As many may know, the Li-ion does not discharge when sitting. For occasional users, like me, a better choice. Brushless? I don’t use it enough to spend the extra $. FYI – not connected to Makita or Toolbarn.com; I’m an equal opportunity shopper. I own several Ridgid tools, a couple of Porter-Cable tools and built my house 35 yrs ago with Craftsman tools. Most of my tools (5 of 7 stationary tools)were bought 2nd hand from someone who did not want to use them bad enough to keep ‘em around.

Taking my teen to Marc Adams Monday – I will take the opportunity to ‘Tune’ these up while the class works on sharpening.

If you search on “Paul sellers aldi chisel”. You will discover a number of blogs and videos written by him extolling the virtues of these chisels and how they can be “reshaped” into great chisels. I have done one out of the 4 I have and it was pretty easy to do to. Flatten the back and sharpen, then convince yourself they will be great. Now work on the handle. Knock off the bottom unnecessary ferule, scrape off the varnish, reshape with drawknife, spoke shave, re-cote with BLO. Took at most only a couple hours, and I’m slow. I did not remove the top ferule as Paul does. I did not think it necessary.

My sweet wife picked up a couple of sets on May 30, when they first went into the store. I wish they were imperial instead of metric, but you can’t beat the price.

I haven’t got around to my mega sharpening session, but when I do, these are on the list.

#188 posted 06-28-2016 11:38 AM

Great Idea, but is there a way to sort the forum from newest post to earliest?

A hot deal is a significant discount (including shipping) on a woodworking, carpentry, or general DIY related tools, machines, clothing, book, lumber, or general interest items. Use your discretion. If you think a woodworker would be interested, post it. Please include a link, if online, a description, and the price. The discount amount in % or $$ is appreciated but not required.

Examples:
eBay Buy It Now (BIN)
Amazon sales, Deal of the Day (DOTD), or Amazon Warehouse Deals (AWD).
Zoro sales or coupons
Lowes/HD closeouts.

What is an Amazon Warehouse Deal? It is an item that has damaged packaging or the item itself may be damaged. It could have been dropped off a truck, punched with a fork lift, opened for a photograph, or a customer return. They are sold as used and do not have the same warranty as a new item. Most of the AWD I ve bought were only damaged packaging but you are taking a risk. Note: just because they are sold as “used” does not mean they are actually used.

NOT hot deals:
20% off HF coupon, because they are available all the time.
Everyday cheap prices.
eBay auctions, because we don t know the final price until the auction ends.
Cheap tools.
Your favorite or most useful tool.

And this morning on TV I saw where WallyWorld is going to start their own version of “Prime” and it’s going to cost HALF of what Amazon offers. WallyWorlds will cost $49.99 -VS- $99.99 for Amazons.

I dont currently have Amazon Prime, but have been thinking about it because I find myself checking their prices more often than I used to. Looks like it would almost pay for itself with about 8 or 10 orders. If WalMart’s will cost half what Amazons cost, it might sway me that way, because if I ever DO get something I dont like I can carry it to the local store and avoid return shipping charges.

I have Amazon Prime and IMHO it’s well worth the cost. Of course we order nearly everything from Amazon. Just the free shipping pays for it at my house. The streaming video and 2-day shipping are the icing on the cake and we use the streaming video almost as much as Netflix. We never have any issues at all with returning anything and have never paid for return shipping. If the seller doesn’t want to handle quick and easy, we just contact Amazon directly and they usually tell us a replacement or refund is on the way and send us a return shipping label within the hour.
