I’ve got a brand new Akeda jig that I’m willing to part with. I bought it new about 4-5 years ago, cut one test joint and put it away. I’ve got the router bit set, extra fingers, manual, etc. I think it’s the 16” DC model? I’ll check if you’re interested. I’d be willing to sell or trade for decent quality hand tools.

APM I would be interested in your Akeda jig if you still have it. I know this post is a few months old but let me know if the jig is still available.
Thanks

I’m out of surplus accessories at the moment. Hopefully someone here has an extra accessory kit for sale.

I sincerely hope someone puts these fantastic jigs back into production.

I saw a few accessory sets on ebay a few weeks ago. I don’t have any extra parts for sale, but I do love the jig.

I have the 24” and can say that it’s more jig than I’ll ever need but when I got mine that was the only model that I could find. It’s an amazing tool to have only wish that I had more uses for it. Finding parts is a bit difficult now as they have since done away with the webfront but you can call them (1 877 387 6544) per http://jigstore.com/ If you want just guide fingers it’s going to be pricey as sites such as eBay or CL are going to be your only hope.

They used to have all types of parts and accessories for sale. I e-mailed them out of curiosity on some 8mm bits last week and they sent me what they have in stock (see below).

I think that I’m going to look at CMT’s european offering of bits and see what I can find that will work. I’m curious if anyone else has done a similar thing. I’m aware that Whiteside makes (or at least they did) some 1/4 shank bits for the jib but I’d prefer to go with the thicker 8mm shank if possible.

Here’s some of what the nice person had to say:

Our jigs are no longer in production. The company is presently dormant.

Kevan Lear, the owner/designer of the AKEDA line of products, is now in his 70s. He has been looking to find someone to take over the manufacturing, sales and distribution of AKEDA’s products. Finding either the right partner or someone to acquire the company is taking time.

If you wish to place an order for items in stock, please send us a list of the items you want and your shipping address. We will create an order/invoice for the items in stock and email it to you for your confirmation. We use PayPal for payment.

Please list the back ordered items you want and we will place you on our back order list and send you an email when the items are in stock. We don’t have an eta on the back orders.

Whiteside makes bits for the Akeda as well. I recently purchased a box joint bit with 1/4” shank from Whiteside. The asymmetrical box joints you can make on the Akeda are really good looking. I’ve never seen a simpler or better system for making box joints, it’s just really, really slick. I plan on making some videos making box joints on the Akeda, in my ongoing crusade to bring back the Akeda jig.

I looked into the Akeda jig a couple years back and there are a couple of factoids I’ve come across that troubled me. I can’t vouch for the accuracy of these, so do your own research and decide for yourself.

1. I read that the inventor of the Akeda worked for the product design firm that was hired to design the Leigh dovetail jigs and when they brought the Akeda to market there was dispute over contract/patent violations.

2. After Akeda was sued they had a fire that knocked out there facility. (Hmmmmmmm…. scratches head).

3. The Akeda design was sold to Trend and was still in production when I inquired. Back then, it could be purchased brand new….. However Trend was bound by some type of agreement and could NOT market or sell their’s in the USA. Only in the EU and CN. However, when I contacted the Canadian Trend distributor they were willing to take an order over the phone and ship one to me.

4. The Trend version is metric.

5. The Trend version is really expensive.

Given all of this, I’m not surprised that they can’t find a partner or buyer.

Shame as it is an awesome looking system and every single review I’ve read by someone who’s used it reports that it is the best system out there …. but the business end and product rights seem tainted.

- Greg the Cajun Wood Artist

North of $500, the last one I saw on the bay went for close to $700 after shipping was factored in. I saw a new in box 16” go for ~$600 on the bay just a few days ago. Typically a 16” is in the $375+ range. Then again if you want you can get some of them without accessories (pins etc) on the cheaper side but finding them can be a bit of trouble.

As others have said the thing works like a gem and the repeat-ability is what sold me.

May be opening a can-o-worms here, but how does this compare to the adjustability of Leigh?

Gentlemen….I have a 24” Akeda jig I am ready to part with for $550. I offered it earlier in this thread (9/26/2017) and had some interest but it failed to pan out. Jig is in perfect shape with all parts and accessories. Has not had extensive use and never in production work. Shipping would be in addition….I’m located in Western Canada (Calgary Alberta). Pictures on request. Great thread…cheers to all.

Following and waiting patiently (kinda) for your video.

I found a 24” for sale and am about to take it sight-unseen, but something tells me I should be a little bit more aware of what is include, just in case the box joint maker is not included.

I have asked elsewhere about this.

The box joint cutter isn’t included with most jigs. It just depends if the previous owner added the .350” bit. Whiteside makes one, and sells it factory direct. Router bit World is another good resource.

I would just like to say that Rocky did an absolute stand up job on getting my Akeda jig to me safe and sound. His packaging was superb. I even got the “C” accessory package and more! Thank you Rocky.

I wish you luck Logboy. It is an incredible jig. My only concern is whether I will wear out the plastic “fingers” that snap into the jig to guide the router. I have a lot of them though so I don’t see it happening anytime soon and who knows, maybe I could print some on my 3D printer(s).

Have your say...
