Welcome Ben. I have NO experience turning but I’m sure you’ll get lots of help from others here.

Very nice bowls. I have a small lathe but it has not seen much use recently. We got some burr oak from a friend in ND that might be fun to turn a bit … I’m also in MN … Welcome.

Welcome
I’m in Minnesota also. we live in the north suburbs. close enough to see a stadium if I drive a couple blocks but far enough to not be near last summers riots. You’ll find me wandering Siweks lumberyard if im having a bad day or am bored out of my mind with money to burn.

Any of the other Minnesotans enter projects in the state fair?

Now that Youngblood is gone :-(

I’ve never entered anything in the state fair, and not actually heard of anything like that for the state fair, what is it? I’ve just done stuff in the Northern Woods Expo with the MN Woodworkers Guild

Welcome to LJs, Ben.

I used to live NE Minneapolis. Preferred Siwek to Youngblood when I was there, especially the shorts bins. For a while I was there every Saturday morning, searching for something with interesting grain to work with. I really miss that here in NM, where they just make you take the end with the knot if you want the other 8 feet of the 10 foot board.

Never entered in the state fair. Might’ve if I’d stuck around a few more years.

Welcome Ben. I’m also located just Northwest of the Metro.

I can’t say I miss Youngbloods because I thought their prices were too high, but I do like Siweks. What I do miss is 7 Corners Hardware in St. Paul. That place was tool Heaven.

I have been through the woodworking show at the State Fair, but I haven’t been there in years and never had anything worth entering. Making something nice enough to display in the Northern Woods Expo is a goal I have.
