Hi Paul,
That may come as some surprise to you that you won the award but it certainly doesn’t come as a surprise to me.
I,ve admired your work for a while now and was just showing my Lovie Cheryl one of your 120 posted projects here My Cheryl was in awe as I took her through your home page. And in particular one of your boats and then the marquetry that you created of a picture of that particular boat.
I just wonder if there is any young blokes coming through with anywhere like the skills you have.
Very nice work and congratulations on the award.
Kind Regards
Anthony (Hong Kong)

Well done Paul and well deserved, exceptional classic pieces – join the trophy club. Its great to get recognition – these are a few of mine,

but I’m sure our WA Wood Show is on a far, far smaller scale than your Veneertech Craftsman’s Challenge. You can get bitten by the winning bug, which is partiliy what drives me each year to make the next project, and try to come up with something that bit more special. I wouldn’t want to go ‘head to head’ with you!!

I missed the finished post of your boxes, so good to be refered back to them …..... really exceptional. Looking forward to your next project.

Thanks for sharing your award and the Boxes you made. these should be an inspiration to more woodworkers to what we can do with time and patience and practice. I think a lot of instruction would help also.

And as others have said, you freely give your help and encouragement to so many of us ordinary folk. That’s a great value to this place.

Thank you.

You shouldn’t be shocked, those boxes are screamin’ gorgeous! Congratulations! I was just showing those two boxes to one of my sons yesterday when he saw some marquetry in the new issue of FWW, and asked about it (marquetry in general).

Thanks everyone. Your comments are appreciated.

Martin, the contest was a complete afterthought. The boxes had to be good because they were commissioned by the lady who bought my Jewellery box. They had to measure up. She’s happy and that is way more important.

Paul you inspired me to do some simple inlays a few years ago when you did the V8 on the bench vise … I have improved and do allot of string and berry as well as other inlay work … as my work has improved, your work has gone to the moon and back … And like so many others on this site I am amazed that you haven’t won a kagillian awards.

Stay safe and be well.

Paul, all of your work is top notch, especially when you decide to go all out and put marquetry where nobody would expect, nearly every surface and it all fits the design. Not surprised, congrats on being recognized.
