If theres not a HF within 15 miles or less then they do not consider them a competitor. Worst case is try to get the Lowes coupon from your USPS or maybe try corporate to see if they can help. What ya tryin to buy?

I dislike Home Depot for a myriad of reasons.

I don’t blame them personally, they sell different brands for the most part and Harbor Frieght always has a 20% off coupon.

Yeah, can’t say I blame them. I expect them to match a local store, but that’s about it. Heck, they don’t even match their own web site’s prices. Each store can also decide for themselves. Most stores around me stopped the price match they used to have (i.e. Match the price and take an additional 10% of the difference.) I don’t mean this in a negative tone at all….but, If you don’t like a store don’t buy from them, but don’t get mad if they don’t let you “steal” products from them. As long as they aren’t going against advertised policies.

HD honored the HF 20% off coupon once for me. Last time I tried to use one they wouldn’t and the tool dept manager said, they could d only honor coupons for like products. Not the generic 20% off coupon. That’s fair enough to my thinking. They have to protect their business.

I get 10% off at HD and Lowe’s all the time, all veterans do, so in my little world I like them. I have saved a few grand shopping at them. There is a lot of these posts about HD and Lowe’s yes we all know they have bad employees and sometimes bad company ethics/practices, doesn’t every company? But you are still going to shop at them because they a convenient, well stocked, and most things are decently priced. Where else can you buy, weed killer, chainsaw, paint, plants, light bulbs, and the kitchen sink. Electrical, plumbing, tools. tools, tools, and just about everything else. You pay for convenience and no company is perfect.

They are the one that drives Mom and Pop stores away, yet you support them?

Yep. I like Sam’s Club, Walmart, and Costco too. Sorry, I like convenience.

The Home Depot I go to doesn’t accept them…. the guy says that Harbor Freight “Just sells Junk”. I can understand why they don’t take them as it’s not really same items that we’re comparing. Would like to see some consistency though. Seems like if one HD takes them, they all should, but I don’t think you’d ever accuse them as being consistent.

We have a Menards here, it is within 1.5 miles of my shop. I buy as little as possible from them. They stopped giving the 10% off for Vets! I’ll drive 10 miles to go to Lowe’s or HD. Not that it saves me anymore, gas being what it is. If they don’t appreciate us!! I will return the fav!

Lowe’s gives 10% off to vets. You only need to show some sort of ID. I rarely shop HD.

I have spent several hundred at HD in the last couple of months and didn’t know they gave the 10% for Vets. I will be breaking out my VA card from now on. Thanks for the heads up on this.

Just check around with different tool department managers at HD. I have had my best luck in the evenings using the HF 20% off coupon. If you take it to the register the clerk usually has to call a customer service person over and they almost always decline the HF coupon. The head of the tool department is more likely to take it and tell the clerk. I bought both the spindle sander and a compressor using the HF coupons. I try and go back to that HD for tool purchases.

I will say that you can just keep going back at different times and trying different cashiers. At one home depot I had 2 employees tell me they would not accept HF coupons, and the very next week 2 different employees said it’s no problem. In fact just bought the Ridgid router with it, the lady working in hardware said just take it to the cashier, and the cashier didn’t call it in or anything. I think it really all depends on who is ringing you up that day.

The 10% military discount is dependent on the store’s policy. My local HD only offers it to Active Duty (there is no active duty station within 30 miles but there is a VA Hospital 2 miles from the store). Lowes gives it to any military that can show ID. That is why I shop at Lowes

I was told that this is a HD national policy (Vets 10% off). IMO, it would be worth printing this article and carrying it with you when you shop.

That should clear up any doubts at least for HD. PUSH FOR IT.

They both are supposed to do it for all vets nationwide including all stores. I had to speak to the manager at my local store and next time I went in there was no questions. Any ID even your DD-214 is supposed to be accepted.
