I paint them flat.
I made some racks from 1/2” conduit, drilled into 2×2’s

nice rack jbay i just wish i had that much wall space, every inch of space in my shop is spoken for.

Drying horizontal is best, but I have limited space, so I hang them vertically to dry from nails in my rafters using these:

When we had a commercial shop we had a setup similar to what jbay shows but mounted to casters with dowels on two sides. We had several,of those drying carts and would just move them around as we sprayed a kitchen worth of doors.

I seem to recall seeing a YouTube video of a guy that created a Woodworking cart that included a horizontal drying rack that broke down. Might try searching over there.
