Router cabinet dust collection size???

I am planning mine now and will have 4” to the cabinet with a take off of 2.5” for the top.

That matches my setup. However, I found that the additional vent holes in the door panel weren’t needed. I also kept the area around the router as small as necessary, just enough to remove the router from the area or to loosen the router adjusting clamp. This keeps the dust suspended as it passes through the cabinet.

My fence has 2 1/2”, and 1 1/2” at the router.

I prefer to use a shop vac to collect my router table. I collect just at the fence. IMO collecting the box is not worth running ducts. I vacuum out the box as needed & give the router a quick blow with compressed air. Takes me 30 seconds and I don’t have to run ducting to table.
