Have only bought from Lee Valley so far, very good quality IMO! Looked at some kits at another store and was less than impressed considering the small price difference! Have a few more on the way because of there free shipping offer!

Do make your own pen blanks, or do you buy your pen kits with the blanks. Lee Valley & Peachtree Woodworking Supply both have a nice selection. In the LJ’s search engine enter “turning pens” for some good info.

Once had three main suppliers of imported pen kits Berea Hardwoods, Craft Supplies, & Penn State IND. They supplied kits to stores and other online vendors. Today lines are blurred.

Understanding plating one clue to getting good pen kit.

Have always bought kits thru catalogs from all three and some of their resellers online.

If hang out here can learn lot about kits, and if join will get even more information.

JMHO, Berea had best platings next was Craft Supplies, little unclear on PSI. All vendors have dogs in their inventories. Let plating, & price be your guide.

Head over to IAP for all the info you need on pen kits:

I have ordered from all 3 Wildwood mentioned (if not directly, then through vendors), and tend to agree about Berea, and I have had good luck with Dayacom as well.

I use quite a bit, quite the selection from many brands.

Original Sierra ballpoint pen very easy pen to make as looking at instructions. If buy more than one at a time not that expensive. Found them popular with both men & women. Do have to buy bushings at the same time, if have a drill index no need to buy a drill bit.

The original Sierra, now found by different names from other vendors a very popular kit. Berea Hardwoods has expanded the line as can see:

Cannot tell you how many gold & chrome versions have made.

This style initially called elegant beauty made both black Titanium & gold and black titanium & platinum pen only less than $10 a kit with discount.

Initially this kit very big and they had an extension piece had to install while easy to make didn’t sell that well just too long. Glad only order ten. People were modifying them to make them shorter guess Berea got the message, redesigned a shorter version. Click mechanism very good.

Due to price increases might not make those Elegant series unless special order today.
