Yes, lathe is obsolete, three jaw chucks not really great for wood turning, tools might be old basic carbon steel.

If on a budget could buy new Harbor Freight 12×33” lathe (Jet Clone) and set of their basic spindle HSS tools for less. A new NOVA 4-Jaw chuck would be a better option.

Lot depends upon what you want to turn, a new midi lathe with electronic speed control might be a better choice.

yeah that’s what I’ve been reading. The HF version might be a choice or a Grizzly. I’dreally like a big old Rockwell lathe but one hasn’t come up for sale in this area.
