Firewood is good! I ran across a nice piece of cherry in my woodpile. I quarter sawed it on my bandsaw and put it on my shorts rack where it sat for probably two years. I needed a new box for my Norton combination stone and the cherry was just the right size. It’s kind of surprising what you can do with a stick of firewood.

I have the same “problem” all the time—firewood I stacked a few years ago (BW—Before Woodworking) gets pulled off the pile to dump in the flames, and all of a sudden I notice that it’s a beautiful piece of walnut, and simply can’t be burned, so I set it aside. The next piece turns out to be a solid chunk of lovely maple, so I set that aside…

Backyard fires end up being mostly made up of scraps from the lumber bin…..
