If a part can’t be found, I’d take it (the original) to a machine shop and hear their thoughts. I’d probably have them turn the shaft down and press fit a sleeve on that to take it to the original OD for the bearing or whatnot.

I don’t see how it would be possible to install the plain bearings wrong, or in any way that would cause damage to the roller shaft… although lack of lubrication might cause premature wear. Anyway, since you have the original shaft, it should be fairly easy to take to a machine shop to either buildup the damaged area and then turn it down to size, turn it smaller and insert a bushing/sleeve like Fridge suggests, or just turn a new shaft (there isn’t anything special about it in terms of machining). Once you have the repaired shaft, then you can get someone like Western Roller to re-cover it.

PS: There are a few aftermarket suppliers who suggest they still have them in stock – just do a google search for the part number. One of them may actually still have one sitting on the shelf.

Yea I have access to a machine shop, that is the next option…Just put it out there to see if anyone had one laying around… (Rebuilt a PM combo sander that had to have a shaft made due to wear.)

Have your say...
