I think it depends on the table style. I also think for anything other than a medieval King Arthur – esque table 4” would look too thick!
I don’t think the sales price would be any different between 2-4” thick tops
I would definitely want to keep some 4” material for legs/bases though!

The styling of the base is also important for some people. Lumberjocks like us may be sold on beautiful grain, but many people look for other qualities.
