I have a new house with a fiberglass door. You need to try an inconspicuous area first but my door took stain just about like wood.

Thanks Art, the door has a glossy finish on it, will I need to steel wool it before stain?

I would prep the door just as you would for paint. But yes try a small spot first.

Does this door have a stamped woodgrain? If it is, it will take stain. If it is smooth, you may consider painting then.

Sherwin Williams, makes a good wiping stain which will take well on exterior doors, however you must allow it to dry overnight. Then use a good quality poly to protect the door.

Eric, thank you for your reply. The door is stamped wood grain, thanks for the info on the wiping stain.
