After reading this thread, the first thing that came to mind was Japanese and Chinese woodworking, neither of which would be appropriate other than as an interesting discussion. It is a unique form of woodworking not followed in other cultures. If you are talking about, say a Mexican bowl, it would be the same the world over, other than for the decoration.
