Laminating melamine to MDF? Planing melamine?

I’m a bit confused, but I think you’re saying you have partial board or similar with melamine laminate on both the front and the back. Now you want to glue that to MDF to effectively have about a 1.5” thick piece with melamine on one side.

There is special glue for melamine and one brand is called Roo glue. I think this would work given the relatively large surface area.

I think the tite bond melamine glue should work.
I have a wide belt so I run the panels through it to take off the melamine coating then just use regular tite bond.

If you can’t remove the melamine layer (belt sander?) maybe you could still rough it up to give it a scratch coat to help it adhere better.

Can you run screws from the back, through the mdf?

I think I will just try to use the melamine glue first, probably drill through as well from the backside. Smart. I’ll test on scrap first. Biggest concern is just making sure it stays dead flat.
