I’m beginning to think there is nothing you can’t do with Alder. It the universal material of the entire world. Drink up buddy.

Well, like sex, there’s no such thing as bad Alder, but some is just better than others. Degrees of premium maybe.

Once the word gets out on the “Natures Viagra” the price of Alder is going to go through the roof.

Whale bone is OK but nothing is as good as Alder. Mother Alder has to learn like the rest of us have. You can’t always have it your way.

”? am I still welcome to visit next February ?”

Sure, why not. The Muktuk is really getting ripe now.

Alder with Purpleheart accent/ hummmmm that might work. Alder on the Janka scale 590…Purpleheart 2713 blunts cutting edges much quicker.

Problem with Purpleheart, and must exotic coloured woods is that they all end up a rather ugly brown. :(

Alder does make decent cheap Firewood on the Wet Coast! But then I use Birch as Firewood here!

Alder is technically a hardwood but is a low density hardwood that often gets mistaken for being a softwood. Alder firewood burns more like a softwood, it burns fairly fast and produces less heat than most hardwoods.

http://firewoodresource.com/firewood-btu-ratings/

When I first moved to Alaska 1n 1973 I started cutting firewood for the first time. I found a place to cut it and didn’t even really know what kind of wood in was back then. Well I way happy as can be until a guy came along and told me cottonwood make for lousy firewood because it have very low BTU output. The BUT rating of Alder is just one step above that. In my opinion unless its the only option what burn a low BTU output wood like Alder.

Birch is what most use in my area.

The main reason for not burning alder is because you don’t want it to go critical and start a chain reaction leading to nuclear fission.

I always bury my ALDER in the earth and NEVER burn it for it shows disrespect to the tree.

NO, for we as “Brothers of the Alder” are to always share the knowledge…
