Find a gooseneck or architect’s desk lamp at a garage sale that is designed to clampto a desk and replace the lamp with your hood. You could just make a clamp with some plywood and a bolt too. Rockler makes a dust hood designed to attach to the ways of the lathe that might give you some ideas. There are some pictures of it mounted on mini lathes similar to the HF one. -- Nathan, TX -- Hire the lazy man. He may not do as much work but that's because he will find a better way. |

I use the clear dust hood from Woodcraft, and it’s on sale now for $24.95. I made a bracket that clamps to my lathe, and got a reducer to hook up to a 2 1/2 hose. Works excellent on dust and just fair on chips. Mike -- MEL, Kansas |

The one I use for my little lathe wanders around the back side of my lathe [and makes a HUGE difference]. The new version will sit on the floor, so it can be used on the little or the big lathe. It will be adjustable in height, and will be able to move forward and back on the floor. It’s just pipe with ends installed. The stand is slotted plywood. Of course, the locking knobs are just T-nuts and ply. |
