Drill presses aren’t so good as spindle sander because they aren’t really designed for prolonged sideways forces on the quill. I’d ask Grizzly tech support (Grizzly is parent of Shop Fox) about that. Maybe they’ve mitigated that somehow, since that is obviously how the oscillating DP is going to be used.

I’ve got one that I bought that was practically new at a discount off of craigslist about 4 years ago. It seems to work just fine though I don’t know if there will be some sort of issue over the long term. Hopefully they used bearings with a higher radial (?) rating to mitigate that. If they can make a bearing for a roller blade that can handle the sort of stresses they get, surely they can put a bearing in there that can handle a little side pressure. It is not like you need much that pressure to sand.

If you don’t have room or a budget for a dedicated oscillating sander, this is a nice compromise. The built in dust collection port for sanding is actually pretty effective.
