Exactly what maps are you talking about? Here is one working on your profile page (screenshot taken about a minute ago):

This is NOT a firewall setting. This is a GOOGLE ISSUE. What else that’s tied into GOOGLE might this affect.

It Relates directly to NOT Being an HTTPS Secure Site as stated by Google in the above GOOGLE Page Cut Outs!

Yes. Those are the Maps. To ME it is also darkened.

This what my Home Page looks like right now. It’s advanced from “Darkened” to the Message shown. Except if you click on the “OK”in the First Message Above it brings back the Darkened Map.

Reading the error message, it looks like your browser refused to open the link to Google Maps as it was coming in from a http web page, not the https. If you open a new browser window you should be able to get to it directly.

Try downloading a different browser and trying it to see if it’s a browser issue or computer issue.
I did the windows 10 reset fresh start(it deletes bloat ware) and I have issues with video play back in firefox and edge. So it was something that was deleted causing the issue just haven’t had time to reinstall thing to find out what it is. Good luck rick and I hope it’s one of the first item you try my luck it will be the last thing I try.

Rick,

I see the same thing on your profile page:

My PC is running Windows 10 1803. The browser being used is Firefox 62.0.3 64 bit.

When I browse to maps.google.com typed into the address bar of Firefox, I see Maps as expected.

Could Firefox be refusing to load an HTTP api call?

NOTE: I am not a web developer and don’t play one on TV.

Maybe there have been Google maps api changes that are causing the map call to fail.

When I activate the Firefox developer tools and look at the console I see:

Map.addControl is no longer supported in the Google Maps Javascript API v2.
Please visit https://developers.google.com/maps/documentation/javascript/v2/v2tov3 to

None of you are having a problem. Updated browsers should show you what you see. This is a security issue with LJ and not having an SSL certificated updated properly (or having one at all).

The Google plugin will not display correctly because the page is not configured or secured as it should be. There is nothing you can do about it.

I sent Her a PM about 4/5 days ago relating to the other one on “Coffee Shop” that is the same as and also relates to this one. No answer or action was taken.

What’s with this And ask IF there is something the site can do….or, is that too easy to do? There’s nothing stopping YOU from Contacting Her. Is there?”

If I understand what I read, Google is now charging for use of their maps on websites. The error simply means that LJ has not registered under the new model. In the scheme of things, this would seem to be pretty low on the list of things needed on the LJ website.

It is not like anyone uses the maps on LJ to navigate or anything. Definitely a nice to have. If it is important to you, one could always just upload a screen capture in your workshop posting and/or a link to the google map I suppose. Personally, I’ve always thought of the map & address as a come steal my stuff advertisement, sort of like posting vacation pictures on Facebook while you are still out of town. LOL.

You have a right to be worried Torus! Ask all of the Questions that you want to and you’ll get a few DUMB Answers from the “Know It Alls” on here who THINK they have ALL The Answers. They DON’T!

You’ll get answers like this one: “The error simply means that LJ has not registered under the new model. In the scheme of things, this would seem to be pretty low on the list of things needed on the LJ website.”

There’s more to it than that!

In my Personal Opinion “Trouble Is Brewing” but “The Big Boys” don’t think it’s any Big Deal.

Notice the LACK of any kind of response from “Management” about any of this? Maybe it has something to do with $$$$$$$!
