My understanding is it should be the thickness of a piece of paper away… so as close as you can get it without touching. The back bearing is a tricky one though as the blade usually has a step in it at the weld. Some say to grind this down with a file on the back of the blade the first time you use it. It will help prolong the life of your bearing and run smoother too.
