i used automotive clear coat for some wood shelves in my shower after trying different things and having them fail and stripping and trying and eventually scoring some free auto clear coat. it was a 2 part so similar to epoxy, but obviously made for outdoor use. i get direct sun exposure through the window and constant soap and moisture on it. its been about 5 years and it is perfect. I applied it to black walnut.

thanks squazo. was that an acrylic based paint? I’m seeing both acrylic and urethane based and some links I read suggested acrylic will exfoliate.

also to add to my own list, I’ve noticed at HD they have patio finisher which seem to be agate urethane finishes, but those should definitely fair well in terms of waterproofing as that’s what they are designed for.

last but not least, thompson water seal is popping up in quite a few places, seems like it’s sold at Lowes but not HD, would love to hear anybody’s opinion if people have used that.
