How to complete this box?

Perhaps narrowing the straight sides of the legs would look improve the proportions. I wouldn’t recommend tapering the legs to a point—it would be too extreme. You might try progressively tapering the legs in stages to a degree that just looks right.
Also, I would suggest a longer, lower pull on the top to complement the length of the box.

I like it. I see the color gradient in the knob. If you have a longer piece with the same coloring, I might try a longer knob. If not, I my eye says keep it as is. I’m sure age will change the colors, but the “wow” factor is when the gift will be received.

Post pictures when done.

I like it, but since you asked for suggestions, what about a small miter on the tops of the legs, where it meets the lid? It might lighten up the look a little.

For the knob, personally I think I’d like to see something a little smaller/lower profile. Maybe longer, but lower and thinner?
