Moulder/planers have a rather long distance between the head and the rollers (required for moulding knife clearance) as well as not having chipbreakers or pressure bars this all equals a higher propensity for chatter.

The bottom line is the PM 100 is a better planer, whether or not the quality is worth giving up 6” for YOU. The one thing I would say is BUY it, you should have already. About the worst case is you use it, it doesn’t work out for you and you sell it for MORE than you paid.

Well I wound up picking the little machine up as I’m a sucker for old iron. After running some oak and poplar boards through both machines, it seems there really isn’t much difference. There is snipe with the PM, but that might be attributed to the feed/exit table being much shorter than it is on the WM and/or because of the poly bed might be a help on the WM as well.

Regardless, I’m pleased with the purchase, if even for the nostalgic reasons.
