Maybe go to the Hyperkitten site….and see if this is a type 6 or 7 Stanley? Is there anything stamped at the top of the iron….like a stanley logo? Marks under the lever cap and frog COULD be from the mold used to cast them?

Your first step should be to clean up the (non-bevel) face of the iron. Use a brass wire brush or razor blade.

There’s no reason to believe it’s a replacement, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a plane blade with absolutely no markings.

what does it say on the lateral adjuster after you knocked the rust off?

thanks gents for the replies. I have tried all of the aforementioned. Cleaned up the iron which was very heavily pitted, but no markings that I could see at all. Same with the lateral adjustment lever, again there was some pitting there. I have included a pic of the knob and tote in case they may help ID it. They were stained this red brown color which seems to be original?? (look at the bottoms of each) that at first I didn’t like, but now is somewhat growing on me. just like to return it to the original
