That final pic looks like a brand new saw. Nice score. May you have years of safe use with it.

Do people say YOU SUCK here?? if not it is a term of envy used elsewhere when someone has ALL the luck. Always meant in a very nice kind of way.

Great job! But you’re missing a cross cut sled! You had time for all that but haven’t made one yet?

May it bring you years of good projects

Wow!!! Really nice!!!! I always enjoy using something I find and fix up, the problem is that it happens so rarely these days. Best of luck with it.

I’m pretty happy with the result. Pictures, of course, always look a little better. The top still has a few stains and there are a few very minor nits here and there, but it’s about as good as it gets with used.

Now … for a used DC …

I wish that I could get that lucky with some of my CL finds. Only thing I have found some good deals on is lumber….and that’s few and EXTREMELY far between.

I don’t think VA is a good spot for deals on used equipment. I’ve come across two in the past 2 yrs that I’ve been searching CL. Missed out on the one by 20 mins.

It can be difficult. I’ve seen a lot of ads that looked promising, but were too far away. I’d make a drive of a couple of hours to see something that was as-new, but not for a renovation unless it was unusual in some way (like dirt cheap for a Powermatic 66 or 72).

That said, my G1023 DID need work. I wish I had a before picture because it looked very neglected and rusty on the top and rails. I went to look at it because it is a current model (parts availability), was local, and I saw enough in the pictures that indicated that it might be a hidden gem. In person, the cabinet was in excellent shape with no paint chips or rust, the trunnions showed virtually no wear, and the dented and broken parts I saw were easily fixed (e.g., dust port and electrical connection box). I did replace almost every nut, bolt, washer, and screw on the machine, fence, and rails as they were either rusty or starting to corrode. So no more soft hardware – everything is now grade 8.

Total time for the renovation was about 20 hours, more or less. I still need to replace the fence knob, as it was missing. And I still have a box of misc. parts to address, such as the router table inserts and hardware, and the blade guard assembly, all of which are rusty, too.

Most of this was cosmetic – a refresh. My guess is that the owner might have been frustrated with the machine, as (again) the shroud and hose were plugged, stops out of adjustment, and everything needed aligning. So it was neglected. Sometimes it’s hard to see past appearances, though.

(The AccuMiter miter gauge didn’t come with the saw, BTW. I already had that.)

I contacted the seller and had him send me the picture he posted. Here’s the condition I bought it in.[email protected]/39469622845/in/dateposted-public/
