did you check your local CraigsList for lumber ?

there are a couple of places in my town that sells awesome lumber in small batches
and they don’t list their services in any kind of formal advertising.
craigslist is always the best “cash n carry” business with free advertisement.

I used to live in Avon Lake but now I’m ~20 min SW of the airport. Elegant wood products has some good stock and they’re always running a sale on something, they’re about 1/4 mile east of the SR 83 & SR 82 intersection which might not fit your definition of not too far but depending on traffic, shouldn’t be too much more than a half hour. As for exotics, Keim is it and a bit of a haul as well. There are a few sawyers/distributors in the Valley City & Medina areas too.

I would move out of Cleveland to a town with a good selection of hardwood. Sacramento is a good choice.

If you don’t find anything you like up there and don’t mind traveling a bit, CR Lumber outside of Xenia is fantastic. He also will ship his stuff out so if you want, go to his website – www.crlumber.com and you can look over his online store.

I buy all of my stuff through him (I live outside of Dayton) and can say I haven’t had any problems with the quality of his wood or, in my mind, his prices

I know David Picciuto from the Make Something youtube channel lives in the Cleveland area. He’s always talking about the place he gets his hardwood from. I can’t remember which it is, since it’s useless to me not living in the area. But I know he’s mentioned it in quite a few recent youtube videos. He might even have links in the video description so you don’t have to sit through all of his videos to find it.

I think he’s in the Toledo area as I’ve heard him reference Kencraft hardwood before and they have nothing in the Cleveland area.

I was thinking Dave Picciuto as well but forgot he was Toledo rather than Cleveland. I was watching one of his videos the other day and he said he got a sheet of 3/4 BB for $29 at Kencraft. Might be worth a drive if it’s really that cheap.
