I remember Bob making one.

Mini Air Hockey Table

Didn’t read everything…lol. I’ll just leave that he made one and a pretty cool build process. I agree, it would be a fun project to make.

I like one of the commenters mentioning the use of a box fan underneath to reduce sound and footprint. And another would be the use of an Arduino to keep track of the score. I don’t want to dig into this too much because I’ll start to wonder if I should try to build one and I can’t have that with my long list of projects. lol.

I found this DIY one with a really detailed write up and lots of pics. https://imgur.com/a/Dd1eQ

also this one is very ambitious with led lights, electronic scoreboards under the “ice”, etc http://www.instructables.com/id/Dazzlers-Air-Hockey-Build/

A friend built one a loooooooong time ago (early 80s). Plan was in Popular Mechanics or Mechanix Illustrated. Air source was just a bathroom fan I believe.

I made on in the 80’s for my kids. Used a vacuum cleaner at first, but it made too much of a racket, and actually pushed up the pucks a bit as they skidded across. A couple small squirrel cage motors, mounted on each end I think will do just fine.
Personally, I don’t want to take all that time and drill all those holes!
