Hi Gang
I just got an email from Charles Neil's shop saying they have a new DVD coming out covering all of these subjects.

Here's the info the DVD has:

Selecting & Processing (planing, jointing)
Equipment: Table Saw; Band Saw; Chop Saw; Drill Press; Lathe; Spindle Sander; Drum Sander; Router; Mortiser and more.
Techniques: Gluing panels; doors; drawers; joints; sharpening; hand planes; scrapers; chisels; jigs; legs (cabriole, tapered and turned)
How Charles builds furniture from start to finish.
Fully indexed chapters by topic.
This set will ship in mid-April.

Furniture Property Cabinetry Interior design Wood

I consider Charles my mentor ,he's a great teacher and full blown high end furniture maker. If you asked questions on line and wonder who has the right answer to how something is done ,wonder no more ,just get yourself a copy of Charles
"Woodworking…Simply Put" new DVD and you will get answers from an expert who really knows what he's talking about.

I've had people ask before,I don't get anything out of endorsing Charles other than knowing LJ members get good info,in fact I had to ask Charles if I could post this.

I also consider Charles my guide.

I am not sure how many of his DVS's I have, but it is quite a few. They are fabulous. Watching Charles make things and explain it as he goes is so much better than reading a book. It is almost like being there with him.

Charles is also very generous with his time, maybe too generous. I have emailed him with questions and he has answered every time with thoughtful answers and often times starting with questions about what exactly am I trying to do.

I probably will buy this DVD even though it might duplicate instructions I already have from Charles. I think it is important to support people like Charles.

Charles Neil is beyond simply good, he's great. Very helpful and generous with his time and knowledge, and his teaching techniques are the kind that make me really understand what he's talking about.

I've been in and out of the VA hospital for the last couple of weeks, so I haven't been keeping up on the things he was teaching. I need to get back to them, because there's no one better in my book than Charles Neil at showing a newbie how it's done.

Thanks, Mr. Neil.

I too would like to add my "endorsement" of Charles Neil to the list. I am hardly near the level of Jim and so many others that have spoken so well of Charles, but as a beginner (read: hack) he has a wealth of information to share with woodworkers just like me. There just isn't a chance that I could discover on my own what he presents in his materials.

Whether it is his books, his videos, his advise here on Lumberjocks or his web site, I am absolutely impressed with his command of woodworking and finishing. I have the companion book and I am actually reading the entire thing (as opposed to just looking at the pretty pictures) and it is just a wealth of information.

I too, do not get anything for this endorsement. Though if Mr. Neil would like to pay me, I would be happy to take his money. I take paypal if you are interested Charles :)

Thanks Guys
I noticed on that same email Charles has a new PDF file of his " Finishing Simply Put…no Chemistry Degree Required"
I have the book and it has tons of great advise with up to date info on finishing, having it in PDF format will really make it easy to search. Lastly he has a sale one both items.

Charles Neil is a class act. I'm always amazed when he chimes in to posts just like the rest of us to help a beginner with a simple question. It's especially great when the rookie poster has no idea that he's getting advice from someone of Neil's caliber.

There are a lot of talented guys on lumberjocks, but Charles Neil is in a league of his own, not just for his craftsmanship, but also for he comports himself on this website and others. He's a fine fella to do business with in my book.

I can add that he and his wife are Prince and Princess. When I was down and out with my health issues they provided me encouragement and helped lift my spirits. Woodworking notwithstanding, the pair are top notch.

Although I am beyond help….
I went and ordered the DVD & the PDF.

I see Mr. Neil post here regularly, willingly sharing his knowledge (just like everyone else here does!)....
And being so giving of his valuable time to help others.
I know I will learn plenty & it is at least, in a small way, something I can do to say thank you….

I put in my order last night on your recommendation Jim. Thanks!
I always take the approach "Someone always has a better way of doing it". Basic or advanced. I'm looking forward to watching (and learning from) the video. Not shipping until April tho:(

I've known Charles for about 7 or more years and in that time I have e mailed him daily about stuff going on in my shop or issues I have been having with a build..Charles, single handedly has turned my product around and as of right now, my workload is booked solid till at least June..all of it being referrals. Superior work, superior Finish and attention to clients needs is just one of the few things I learned from Charles..everything in his book as well as his videos are all extremely valuable info to me and will be to you as well..I own pretty much all of his videos and the book and it's by far the best investment I have spent for my business and for my "go to" when I need it..The new dvd will be added to my collection as well..it's far worth it..
