Welcome to LJs and NM.

Pinon contains a lot of sap. The sap will make a mess on every tool it touches. The grain of the wood is curly and looks nice but its a lot of work and cleanup to get usable lumber. I’ve tried resawing some of the dead branches from my trees and don’t think its worth the effort. The sap seems to ooze from everywhere.

We look forward to the nuts we get about every two years. Its the most pleasant smelling wood when it burns.

If you’re looking for a cheap source for wood you can contact

Santa Fe National Forest Headquarters
11 Forest Lane
Santa Fe, NM 87508

We have had a lot of forest fires over the last few years. Lots of pine logs available.
