dawsonbob is right on the hardware issue, if you can find hardware of any type and do the track thing, you can find many great deals. Rockler had a bunch of satin knobs real cheap at one time, you might want to check their clearance link. Also many online vendors will sell you a single knob with free shipping just so you can check it out.

For me my thing was I was wanting knobs that were brass and ivory looking. I found great looking knobs on amazon and other sources but the knobs were about $2 apiece and the matching pulls were $6. I searched and searched for similar knobs for about 3 months for cheaper cause I knew I was going to need a bunch of them. Than suddenly out of the blue, the company discontinued them, and they showed up everywhere at a discounted price, I bought 100 knobs for peanuts and 100 pulls from Lee Valley for $1 each. I have a lifetime supply of these for my own needs, and the things are really nice looking, and can be used for things I want to sell.

I wish I could remember some of the sources I found that were cheaper than others, but Rockler definitely does get some good deals in their clearance area and it usually 3rd party, and if you order other stuff to meet free ship you do not have that expense. That how I checked out the cool knobs I have. I bought something else and 1 silly knob which was shipped by someone else. The other source I saw knobs and hardware from cheap had warehouse and woodworker in the name. It was a long time ago but maybe it will ring a bell to someone and they will give the link. They were definitely cheaper than other sources.

As to the difference tween brushed and satin, I think satin is smoother, not glossy, but smooth, where brushed looks like it has even small even scratches.
