Hey everyone…..Merry Christmas!

Last weekend, my wife, Lynn and I were invited to join our little 8 yr. old friend, William and his parents to see the Train displays at the Chicago Botanical Gardens in Glencoe, Il.

They have huge tropical green houses inside, massive architectural structures that were brought there from other countries and re assembled in to the unbelievable paradise like landscape. Please Google it. I can't do it justice with these lousy phone camera pictures - I forgot my good camera! GRR!

But the Christmas train display was really neat - they built miniature replicas of all of the famous buildings from Chicago out of natural materials like birch bark, twigs and tons of miniature fern like plants.

Check it out.

As we walked around, I kept thinking how fun it would be to work with the guys building the bridges or one of the Houses…. at least let me work with the landscaping and plants!

I've never owned a train track but I've always had a soft spot for them, especially the miniature landscape scenes.

Lots more pictures but I don't want to be a spoiler.

If you live nearby, I recommend seeing it.

We wish all of you at Lumberjocks the very best this next year.

Peace

Thank you for the tour! Never saw the Botanical garden looks like we missed a good place to see!

We lived 90 miles west of Chicago for nearly 27 years and we spent a great deal of time sight seeing going to the taste of Chicago, the museums, Cub games, taking German relatives to top of the Sears Tower, walking Michigan Avenue to see the Christmas decorations, getting passports, and getting my citizenship.

Dan, glad you made it there! ain't it cool?

I'd like to build a railroad track around my koi pond with a wooden span bridge like that.

You'll have to come back in the summer time and see the gardens in bloom. They have a Japanese garden and a court yard full of bonsai trees on display too.

Next year, we want to bring our bikes and check out some more of the bike/walking paths.

back to the cold temps I guess. 45 degrees yesterday! T shirt weather! nice while it lasted.

thanks for the comments guys. Stay warm!
