It sounds like there needs to be more moderators with admin permissions who can approve/reject new accounts, and put sort of a probationary period on new account postings (Maybe Debbie can give a few of the top posters who always keep an eye on these types of things the ability to delete new accounts that aren’t genuine). Its strange, because when I first signed up for LJ’s about 6 months ago, I posted a project and it took almost 24 hours before it was approved. A1Jim and a couple others commented on my profile saying welcome, and I asked how long it takes to get your first post approved, and it wasn’t until the next morning that it was there. Seems like it wouldn’t be too hard, all you would have to do is add a couple rules or lines of code to new accounts.

This site has been up since 2005, and without someone who is very proficient in internet security and web design its going to happen sooner or later, you just can’t keep up with all of the scumbags in the world who are on a mission to ruin it for the good people.

What really frustrates me is the people that write the code and algorithms that create these spam accounts (same with those who create viruses)—if those people actually put their knowledge towards something honorable they would be able to make a decent living out of it.
