thanks bill. yeah, i am happy with 12%. taking a sanding break now, and dont worry, there will be photos. ;-)

as far as an inch per year, that is a very broad brush, and from what i have found overkill. i have found that 90% of the movement is finished after a few months, and a very knowledgeable pro around here advocates using mesquite and bodark almost immediately as it checks and moves very little.. this is for slab live edge furniture, so it is much less critical. i have made several pecan pieces at 2.25” thickness on spec after 9 months drying and at 18-22%, 9 moths after construction both indoor and out no issues.

for joinery i use mortice and tenon and supported by hefty lag screws, countersunk with a 1” hole and plugged with a dowel. practical, very strong, and has that nice dowel look. this is one heck of a project, with 10” thick slices off of the bottom 3’ of trunk for legs. i’ll be glad to get this out of my garage/shop!
