I swear I either have a comical poltergies or a gremlin in my shop. Crap keeps disappearing. First it was my tool for adjusting my Incra miter gauge, then I lost my Kreg Push stick. Yesterday my dust pan disappeared. I have torn my shop apart for everyone that went missing. I don't get it.

There are about five items from my shop, including my best hammer and my Incra Template Guide, that have completely vanished. I vaguely recall using them outside my shop somewhere, but I cannot recall what might have become of everything. It's really frustrating.

It has to be there somewhere…gremlins do not usually like to be around sawdust.
You could also tie a piece of string to every tool and handg it from the ceiling
I have a place for every tool to be stored when not in use and make a point of always putting it back there when I finish using it…especially helpful for me to create those storage spaces near the area where they are mostly used.

My Gremlin is my ten year old grandson who thinks all my tools are his. Whenever I can't find a tool, I just check his clothes dresser/tool box and there it usually is. I think if this boy could get my power tools into his room that is where my shop would be. Good luck on finding your lost tools.

About 15 years ago I helped my boss open a brand new shop. We had to hire a completely new staff-which is not easy to do all at once, I might add.

Funny thing is that tools began disappearing almost right away. The new shop ladder lasted about three days before it disappeared without a trace. Every week it was something else.

All that instantly stopped on the day that we instituted mandatory company-wide drug testing.
What a starnge coincidence, that was…

I remember once I couldn't find my pencil. I said out loud to myself "Where the hell did I put that pencil". My wife who happened to be down cellar replied. "You mean the one on your ear." I now mutter to myself instead.

Took two clamps out to the yard for clamping boards to a sawbuck. picked up tools after the job could not find one clamp. Still looking 6 mo later. Placed pocket knife on table after wrapping presents, now missing over 1 mo.Have looked everywhere possible. Can't imagine how I lost an orange clamp and a bright blue handled knife. They got lost before they got back to their usual place where I keep them. I am the kind of guy that knows where I put something 2 years later, but that didn't help and it bother's the hell out of me.

Do you have any ravens in the neighborhood that have access to your shop? I know a dust pan is large but so are some ravens.

The last time my dustpan disappeared I found it when I dumped my trash can and I still haven't figured out who would throw it away!

I have yet to find the adjustment hex driver for the Mitre gauge and that was years ago. My Kreg push stick has been missing since this summer. My shop is small 18×20 and I have cleaned it from top to bottom and rearrange it around a few times and still can't find the stuff. Maybe my double from the parralell universe took it !!!

I always tidy up when I am finished each night and everything does have a place where I know just where to find it.I always have a super clean up when I finish a project everything is put in it's place and all wood put away, then I start off with a fresh mind on my new project. In cases of tape measures the problem is easily solved here in the uk you can buy pretty good ones cheap as a pound a time. I buy a box of ten and place them every where around the shop you will find this is a good way of finding things and NO it's not ghosts or gremlins. It's just that as we get older we encounter problems with our short term memories ,it's as simple as that, in other words we are not supposed to be super capable after a certain age we begin to slow down jut so happens no one explained to our creator this is a bad idea when medical technology/science means we all live longer even at 61, I would be dead as an old man by this age a few hundred years ago.Alistair
