The Russell Jennings bits are made for softwoods or dried hardwoods, and off the top of my head, I don’t know what number designates each. You will pay a premium for these bits.

There are many auger bits available for give away prices that will get you started. You might need to buy an auger file to sharpen them, but the file is pretty cheap and I got my most recent one from Amazon and my earlier ones from Tools for Working Wood and Highland Hardware.

If you have your heart set on RJ bits (I have a set), I would contact an established vintage tool dealer, that knows tools, for the purchase. Don (posted above) is a dealer, another is Patrick Leach and another is Josh Clark/Hyperkitten Tools. Do you need a complete set of bits? I bet most of those three tier boxes, when examined, have maybe 1/3 of the bits never used!
