I remember the day… I was at work in the lab when the news broke. C-SPAN shared half the building so they wheeled out various TV’s into the hallway and we watched off and on throughout the day. On my way home about every gas station had jacked prices up between 7 and 9 bucks a gallon.

My wife was at home on bed rest for the last month of her pregnancy with our first child. We had been in/out the hospital that entire week. I remember us making chit chat one night at the hospital and I told my wife I wasn’t worried about terrorists attacks it was our fellow American’s I was more concerned about (unfortunately that hasn’t changed).

My daughter was born 5 days later and the outside world was of little interest to me. We did keep some news clippings and I do smirk at the thought that the newspaper will likely be more “historical” to her than 9/11.
