@Littleshaver, love the scrub brush suggestion! I think that would work well to clean them up with much less work then sanding. We’re thinking about white-washing instead of clear coat.

@controlfreak yeah, thinking about sand blasting in here seems like it would be quite a production! Fun maybe but a hell of a lotta clean up. My wife would have my ass. Sanding is probably out.

I’m really looking forward to trying out white-washing the joists and flooring. Thinking that will go well with the less-red beam. I’m going to try out a few different methods on some scrap wood to see what works best in context.

I’m going to try w/ and without brushing, using grout-adhesive, using milk paint and normal ceiling paint to see how they turn out.

What do you guys think?
