I’ve got Wolfcraft versions of them, and I’m not sure where they’re made, as they just say “Made in the EU”, but they are a German company, for what that’s worth. They feel fine from a quality standpoint, nothing special, nothing super cheap either. Your thought about clamping force is pretty accurate for thinner stuff. It doesn’t provide much, but can help to get them aligned eventually. With thicker stock, it does better because the spring is more compressed, but then it’s also heavier so that sort of counteracts it as well. I find them fairly difficult to use on 3/4” stock, as you have to get a pretty good squeeze on them to open the jaws wide enough. Then you have to fiddle with them to get the corner block in the right spot, and get things lined up and square, etc.

I rarely use them, because I don’t like them. I find them too fiddly and annoying for what I do, and I don’t often have a need to clamp up corners like that, as I usually have some form of joinery that will do that alignment for me
