I use the 3M “77” all the time for “acrylic” felt, works great and doesn’t bleed through. The cardboard technique works well if you have to place it inside a drawer/box but one trick I do is to wrap it around the sides of the cardboard to present a nice edge when pressed into place. I also put double sided tape on the assembly before instilling to prevent it from bowing up or falling out. Other times I’ll laminate it to the base wood of the drawer/box when that piece sits in a rabbeted recess. This gives a fray-proof clean edge on the interior.
