Wow, I just took a look at the manual and you are correct – the knives for that jointer do have little slots in them for the screw head to hold them in place! Weird design, and doesn’t really look all that safe, but I guess it works. Unfortunately, I don’t believe you will be able to use the new knives as-is because of that. However… the original knives you have can be sharpened, and since they are the correct ones for your jointer, you have a reference as to where the slots need to be. Find a local sharpening shop around you, they usually can also do modifications, and could put those slots in for you. Get the original knives sharpened, and have them modify the new ones so you have a backup set.
